Knitting Socks

Have you always wanted to make socks? Have you dabbled in sock knitting but just can't seem to get the hang of it? Or, are you an experienced sock knitter looking to improve your skills? In these tutorials we'll break down sock construction from heel to toe, compare different methods, discuss patterns, yarns, books and resources to provide you with what you need to explore the rich world of sock knitting. Prerequisites: You must already know how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, cast on, and bind off. Experience knitting in the round is helpful. Double pointed or circular needles are both suitable. Materials: 100g sock weight yarn such as Berroco Sox; four or five double-pointed knitting needles size 0, 1, or 2; darning needle, scissors, tape measure, and stitch markers if you have them.

Zentangle 101

This introductory course teaches the basics of the Zentangle Method of pen and ink drawing, an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. This course will provide instruction in fundamental pen strokes, multiple tangle patterns, and simple shading techniques. We will cover the basic components of design and explore ideas for embellishment. Material kits are available for pick up at the Five Town CSD Adult Ed in Rockport or Central Lincoln County Adult Ed in Damariscotta. They can also be mailed for a nominal fee.

Note: This course does NOT contain a First Aid component. This program ensures that individuals with a duty to respond (public safety professionals, healthcare providers, and others with a duty to respond) have the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. Updated content meets or exceeds the scientific recommendations developed by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) and is consistent with the CPR and ECC Guidelines as established by the American Heart Association and other resuscitation councils around the world. Clear, concise, and current information will be provided on: what signs to look for and what treatment steps to take during an emergency, including how to perform CPR and use an AED; updated coverage of bloodborne and airborne diseases, including precautions to take in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; a focus on soft skills, with additional coverage relating to team-based resuscitation. This program is accepted for continuing education credit by CAPCE and NREMT for EMS personnel, and by AGD/PACE for dental providers; the State of Maine accepts the program’s credits for licensing requirements. The course is also approved by, or meets the requirements of, JCAHO (Healthcare Providers); AAAASF (Ambulatory Surgery); ACSM (Sports Medicine); BCAT, NATA and NCSA (Athletic Trainers); DANB (Dental Assistants); NAEMSE (EMS); and NOLS (Wilderness EMT).
