Graphite 2b (can be a yellow school Dixon Ticonderoga, or a Mirrado Black Warrior) 9b (solid graphite stick); several white plastic erasers such as Mars Staedtler (optional, thin white plastic eraser in a pen style holder- thinest diameter); Fine Natural Artist Chamois for creating a smooth ground (find at Dick Blick); Paper – the very best, Arches Watercolor, Hotpress – Arches is a tough paper with a smooth surface that can stand multiple erasures. It holds blacks beautifully, and you can create smooth gradations on it. Other papers can be used at lower cost depending on how much revisioning and reworking of your drawing is desired.
