Five Town CSD Welcomes New Director of Adult & Community Education

David WattsThe School Board of Five Town CSD is pleased to announce the appointment of David Watts as the new Director of Adult & Community Education. The award-winning Five Town program has a state-wide reputation for quality education.

“As the new Director,” says Watts, “I come with a willing heart to learn and understand the educational needs of the community. I am a lifelong learner myself and have always enjoyed doing many things. My focus will be to continue with and build upon the excellent legacy put in place by my predecessor, Tim Dresser, with an eye toward expanding career development opportunities that support our local economy.”

Watts joins the Five Town CSD team by way of, most recently, RSU5 located in Freeport where he was the Director of Community Programs. He has over 35 years’ experience in a variety of roles, including adult education, music education, facility management, banking, appraising, commercial real estate development, and arts management. In addition, he has been a music director and performer his entire adult life.

Says Watts of his vision for the future, “The midcoast area of Maine is a vibrant learning community. It is one of the main things that attracted me to apply for this position. In addition, Adult Education has been going through significant changes and challenges and I’m excited to become involved in helping youth and adults in this area overcome barriers to education and employment.”

Watts will work out of offices at Camden Hills Regional High School just off Route 90 in Rockport. In addition to extensive enrichment offerings, Five Town CSD offers High School Completion, High School Equivalency, basic math and English tutoring for adults, College and Adult Transitions education and advising services, workforce education, and general career counseling services. Many of these academic and career services are free for qualifying residents.

More information about workforce, academic, and enrichment classes will be coming out in the Fall 2018 brochure which is due to hit mailboxes just after Labor Day.

Prevent Class Cancellations

Registered in a class and not sure if it's going to run due to low enrollment? Give us a call to see how many registrations are needed and then go to work!  Talk it up to friends; co-workers; relatives; other members of a group you belong to. You can make a difference and avoid your own disappointment and others' when a class you really wanted to take gets cancelled.

If you and a group of your friends have an interest in a class you've seen in our brochure with a timeframe that doesn't work out, let us know of your interest and we will let you know if it is possible to create a new class and explain what it will take to do it.

Remember:

  • A minimum number of participants is required for all classes
  • The decision to cancel a class must be made at least 2 business days before it starts (unless noted otherwise). If the minimum number hasn't been met - we have no choice but to cancel.

Also, don't wait to the last minute to sign up - we want to know you are coming!

Thanks!

Thank You For Another Successful Year!

It has been another successful year in our Adult Education program!  Thank you for making our adult education program one of the most successful in the State of Maine! Well over 2,000 people take part in it each year. Keep in mind that we are constantly looking for new ideas and new teachers and are continually striving to make this a diverse and inviting program. We need your help to make this a truly “community” education program.  Let us know what you would like to see us offer, or what you could teach or any other ideas you think would help make this a program that serves this community better.  Thanks to all who have participated over this past year!

Tim Dresser, Director
